Frequently Asked Questions
Updated 24 August 2026. 17 questions, all of them answered. Every answer comes from the product documentation with its page named, or from the team, with who said it and when.
Do I need the glasses to try it?
No. A trainee session runs on the phone alone, so you can see the assistant working on a real job with nothing but the app.
The glasses are needed for the other half: a trainer session, where your senior engineer records a job hands-free, needs a point-of-view camera. Without connected glasses that mode stays locked.
docs.trainar.ai/getting-started/first-session and /ar-glasses/troubleshooting, read 18 August 2026.
How long before I see something useful?
The documented walkthrough from signing up to a finished session is 15 minutes.
After a session ends, the steps are pulled out of the recording automatically. For a 20-minute session that takes 5 to 15 minutes. A long session, or one recorded on poor signal, takes longer, because the video only uploads once the engineer stops.

What does it cost to try it?
A new account starts with 200 minutes of session time and no card.
docs.trainar.ai/getting-started/welcome and /first-session. Confirmed by Ettan on 24 August 2026: 200 free minutes on sign up.
What does my best engineer have to do on top of the job?
Wear the glasses, work through the job, and talk through what he is doing the way he would if an apprentice were standing next to him.
Talking is the part that is not optional. He converses with the assistant and tells it what he is doing as he does it: a silent recording is not what the platform is built on.
After he taps end, there is nothing for him to do. The steps are found, named, clipped and approved automatically, and there is no signoff screen waiting for anybody. That approval step existed in an earlier version and was removed, because every account approved everything.

What if the recording is no good?
If the audio drops, the camera is blocked or there is nothing usable in the video, the session comes back marked Failed and says that no steps were extracted. Nothing half-built gets into the library.

If that engineer leaves, do I keep what he recorded?
Yes. The recordings belong to the company, not to the engineer who made them.
In the dashboard the two ways out of an account behave differently: deactivating a user keeps their data and does not free their seat, while deleting a user wipes their record and their references. Neither takes your recorded material with them.
Confirmed by Ettan on 24 August 2026. The deactivate and delete behaviour from docs.trainar.ai/settings-configuration.
What happens on a job with no signal?
Live guidance needs an internet connection. If the connection drops mid-session, the app reconnects when the engineer moves into better signal or onto Wi-Fi.
The recording is not lost: it uploads once the phone has Wi-Fi again, which is why a session recorded on bad signal takes longer to come back with its steps.
There is an offline mode, and it is in beta.
docs.trainar.ai/ar-glasses/troubleshooting, /getting-started/first-session and /sessions/procedure-extraction. Offline mode and its beta status confirmed by Ettan on 24 August 2026.
What does the assistant do when it does not know the answer?
It says it does not have the information. It does not make one up.
You can then see exactly why: the session page shows which skills were called and the precise passages the assistant read before answering. Most of the time the fix is a document name, not a missing document, because the assistant routes on the names it can see before it searches inside.

Is it watching everything through the camera?
No. The recording is saved, but it is not streamed to the live assistant. It only looks at a single still frame, and only when the engineer asks it to, out loud.
It also has no access to your CRM, your job management system or your accounts. Those come in as tasks through an integration, with the fields mapped explicitly.

What happens if the minutes run out halfway through a job?
The session in progress finishes. Nobody gets cut off in the middle of a job.
What stops is starting a new one, until the pool is topped up. You can set that to happen by itself below a threshold you choose.

A customer asks me to delete the recording. Then what?
You delete that session from the dashboard and the recording, transcript, summary and skill log are gone within 24 hours. The audit trail keeps a marker saying a session existed, without its content.
If they only object to one part, a name said out loud for instance, you redact that segment instead: it beeps over it and the rest of the session survives.
If they ask for a copy rather than a deletion, you export the session for a subject access request: recording, transcript, summary and job context, bundled.
One thing to be clear about: deleting the recording does not delete what was learned from it. The data generated from the session stays. We do not share recordings with anyone, and the recording of the job is not the part that matters. The data is.
docs.trainar.ai/sessions/privacy-and-gdpr. The last paragraph confirmed by Ettan on 24 August 2026.
Who can see the recordings?
Your account, and nobody else's. No other TrainAR customer can see any of it.
Our own staff can reach it only for support, and every time they do it lands in an activity log you can read.
docs.trainar.ai/sessions/privacy-and-gdpr.
How long is it all kept?
By default: recordings and transcripts 365 days, session summaries 7 years as an audit trail, skill logs 90 days, jobs 7 years. Procedures and uploaded documents stay until you delete them.
You set those periods per account. Shortening them is irreversible for anything already past the new line, and that data is queued for deletion within 7 days.
Data sits in the EU, encrypted in transit and at rest.

Is our material used to train your AI?
Yes. We use the data generated on the platform to make TrainAR better.
Confirmed by Ettan on 24 August 2026.
Which AI companies see our video?
Two: Google Gemini and OpenAI. OpenAI powers the live voice during a session, and Gemini pulls the steps out of the recording afterwards. Both work under agreements where they do not keep your data.
They are named on the subprocessor list in our privacy policy, along with the infrastructure the platform runs on.
Confirmed by Ettan on 24 August 2026, who also asked for both to be listed on the privacy page. Detail from docs.trainar.ai/sessions/privacy-and-gdpr.
If I stop paying, what happens to everything we recorded?
You keep read-only access for 90 days to get your material out. After that the session data is deleted, along with procedures, skills, knowledge and integration settings, unless you have asked us to hold it.
If you are in the middle of something regulatory, support can extend that window.
docs.trainar.ai/sessions/privacy-and-gdpr.
Does it work with the system we already use?
Jobs come in from your existing job management system and the session summary posts back to the visit that started it. The documented ones are ServiceM8, Jobber, Commusoft, Simpro, BigChange, Payaca, Powered Now, plus Zapier, n8n, Twilio and Resend, and there is a route to build your own.
